Poems by Richard Finneran

Lights Shining on the Bay

You and I stood there,
the lights shining on the bay,
and watched the darkness
glisten in the water
as we drifted from the pier.
The colors rippled and faded
in and out, as the waves
moved beneath our feet.
The bright lights glared across
the cold chasm of water
between us
and the shore,
and their brilliance
reflected in our eyes.
But the ferry was moving
away from the shore,
and we with it,
our lights now dimmer
in the distance.
