All Hearts Are Foolish

All hearts are foolish. Fool them well,
for though those who've been tricked may tell
of lessons learned from past mistakes,
it seems their history only makes
them more susceptible to fall
again, and if you have the gall
to push them to the edge, they'll trip.
But when you're pressing lip to lip
and whispering words that make them smile,
your heart must keep its distance while
you trick them into loving you.
If not, then your heart's foolish too—
and isn't the most foolish he
who carves out his own misery?
